Restaurant Roulette

You can't decide. I can. Pick a distance, get a real list of nearby spots, then spin a wheel that picks dinner for you, so nobody has to.

Built because "I don't know, where do you want to eat?" is not a dinner plan. So I made the app that just decides.

What it does

From stalemate to dinner

One small app, three quick steps. Find what's actually near you, narrow it to the real contenders, then let the wheel make the call.

Step 01

Find

Drop in where you are, set how far you'll travel, and Roulette pulls real, open restaurants near you, not a sponsored top-ten list. Add a craving if you have one.

  • Locate by GPS or just type an address
  • Distance dial from a half mile out to twenty
  • Twelve craving filters, from pizza to bakeries, or leave it on Anything
In the running 5 of 7 Pino's Trattoria italian 0.4 mi El Farolito mexican 0.9 mi Sunset Diner american 1.2 mi Bangkok Garden thai 1.6 mi The Daily Grind cafe 1.9 mi Spin the wheel
Step 02

Shortlist

Everything in range lands on a checklist, sorted by distance. Uncheck the place you went last Tuesday, the one nobody likes, the one that's closed in spirit. Whatever survives goes on the wheel.

  • Tap to keep or cut, with a live count of who's still in
  • Distance and cuisine on every row
  • Down to one? It skips the wheel and just sends you there
Give it a spin Pino's El Farolito Bangkok Daily Grind Luigi's Saigon Tacos Joe's Spin
Step 03

Spin

A real carnival wheel spins through your contenders and lands on one. That's dinner. You get it on a map with a one-tap handoff to directions, or you spin again, no judgment.

  • Winner pinned on a live map, cuisine and distance shown
  • Open straight into Apple Maps or Google Maps
  • Not feeling it? Spin again or hop back to the list

How it works

Open to ordering in three taps

No account, no app store, no setup. It works the second the page loads.

1

Set your start

Tap locate or type an address. It only lives on your phone, never stored anywhere else.

2

Find the spots

Pick a distance and an optional craving, hit Find Spots, and get the real places nearby.

3

Spin for dinner

Cut the ones you're not feeling, spin the wheel, and open the winner in Maps.

Under the hood

One file. No backend. No tracking.

Restaurant Roulette is a single HTML file you save to your home screen like a native app. It reads live restaurant data from OpenStreetMap, draws the map with Leaflet, and keeps everything else on your device.

Single-file build Leaflet maps OpenStreetMap / Overpass Nominatim geocoding Netlify No database

There's no server, so there's nothing to breach and nothing to spam. Restaurants come straight from OpenStreetMap's open data, not a paid listings API, so the results are honest and the link is free to share with anyone. There's an optional OpenRouteService key in settings if you want exact driving distances, and it lives only on your own phone. A small, fast app, built the way I think small apps should be: genuinely useful first, a little bit fun second, and honest about where its data comes from.

Try it

Let the wheel decide

Open Restaurant Roulette, set a distance, and stop arguing about dinner. The wheel has opinions so you don't have to.
